The New York Daily News had a story today by William Sherman and Adam Lisberg on New York mayor Michael Bloomberg slamming Arizona‘s “harsh new anti-immigrant law”. There are alot of idiots criticizing this new law and spreading alot of FUD. I don’t begrudge NYDN or any other media outlet covering these morons.
I do, however, begrudge any publication that would publish a news story that has such blatant and obvious inaccuracies concerning the subject it covers. The above “anti-immigrant” quote was not from Mayor Bloomberg, rather it was part of the article written by the columnists. The truth is that this law is specifically dealing only with people who are in this country illegally. The authors also write:
“The Arizona law allows cops to stop anyone they think is in the country illegally…”
Which, again, is a blantant lie. The law actually says:
“For any lawful contact made by a law enforcement official…where reasonable suspicion exists that the person is an alien who is unlawfully present in the United States, a reasonable attempt shall be made, when practicable, to determine the immigration status of the person.”
In other words, if a police officer is already in contact with you and they get suspicious, then they can check your immigration status. They cannot stop a vehicle just because you *might* be an illegal.
The purpose of this law is to direct state and local jurisdictions to actively enforce EXISTING federal immigration law. Section 11 of the law states:
“This act shall be implemented in a manner consistent with federal laws regulating immigration, protecting the civil rights of all persons and respecting the privileges and immunities of United States citizens.”
Any person of any race can be an illegal immigrant. It is only the FUD-lovers who are trying to make this out to be targeting one specific group of people.
If you would like to be more informed than the NYDN, and all the other FUD-muckers, then click here to read the legislation for yourself. (Note: Requires Adobe’s Reader software to view file.)
Found a good opinion piece over on the Fox News website on what America’s role should be in Haiti. Kinda reminds you of the Democrats’ pledge to never waste a good crisis.
The story of the SEAL 3 is starting to hit national television. In this clip from CNN, Neal Puckett, the attorney for SO2 Matthew McCabe is interviewed on CNN.
In case you were wondering (and couldn’t tell by the affiliate ad), my webhost of choice is lunarpages. While searching for a suitable webhost for a site I was building, I discovered that my host at the time did not allow streaming media content without a rather large extra charge. This would not do, as part of the reason for the site was to post streaming media. In my search I came across lunarpages, and was impressed by what they offered with their accounts (in other words, the ability to stream media was included).
When I contacted their sales team with various questions about their plans and service, I was even more impressed with their prompt and courteous replies that included, “If you decide to sign up…” There was no pressure to buy, but it was obvious to me that they were the host I had been looking for. Not only did I pick lunarpages to host the site I was building, I also switched my personal hosting to lunarpages as well.
I have never had any reason to regret or rethink my decision to go to lunarpages. All of my support issues have been handled promptly and politely, and the only site issues I’ve experienced were my own fault. The only thing I don’t like about my lunarpages account is the inability to use special characters to create strong passwords. Only alpha-numeric characters are allowed. This was also the case at my last hosting company, but I do not know if it is a systemic weakness with cPanel or discount webhosting as a whole.
If you’re interested, most of their plans include a free domain name as well as $700 worth of free software and bonuses. You can also get Google AdWords and Facebook Ads credit for signing up!
DISCLAIMER: While I AM part of lunarpages’ affiliate program, and I DO get paid if you click their link on my blog and purchase a hosting plan, lunarpages has not in any shape, form, or fashion offered me compensation for or made a request for a review of their services.
Came across a post about this over on BLACKFIVE today. If you don’t know, Operation Neptune’s Fury is a project by the Victory Institute to have charges dismissed against 3 Navy SEALs who are accused of abusing Ahmed Hashim Abed. Abed was a most-wanted al Qaeda leader at the time of his capture, and accused his captors of abuse which resulted in no more than a bloody lip.
Click on the link above for more information on the 3 SEALs and to find out how you can help get their charges dropped. If you click on the ‘Print this page’ link, it will open a PDF fact sheet that you can save or print for future reference, or to let your friends know about these heroes who are being sacrificed on the altar of political correctness. This is our time to step up and give back to those who sacrifice so much in order that we may know peace and liberty.
Well, it’s 2010, and that means I started this blog almost two years ago. Inspired by the likes of RightFaith, IMAO, BLACKFIVE, and others, I decided to start a conservative-leaning blog as a way to highlight goings-on in the world that I believed to be important . (Hence the tagline: “All the news you already know, and some you don’t.”). Not only was it going to be an inspiration to millions, it might make me a little cash on the side.
To say it was an abysmal failure would be unfair. The honest truth is that I failed to put any time into researching or writing anything (or even administering comments) for this blog. My big idea had succumbed to laziness and distraction.
Convinced more and more each day that America will go swirling down the drain if the public doesn’t heed every shoot-from-the-hip, uninformed, half-formed idea that pops into my head, I have decided to restyle and relaunch ‘Thrash’d’ as an opinion blog with the tagline: “This is my opinion, and if I like yours, I might take it, too!”
Believe me, I have an opinion on everything from religion to politics to foreign relations to common sense to how you (yes, sir, you in the back) should order your steak.
So sit back, buckle up, put your seat-backs and tray-tables in their upright and locked positions, and prepare to be underwhelmed!
Stephen Coughlin, the Pentagon specialist on Islamic law and Islamist extremism, has been fired from his position on the military’s Joint Staff. Of course, it is denied, but it seems that he was canned in response to Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England’s aide, Hasham Islam taking issue with Mr. Coughlin’s analysis of Islamic extremists. Mr. Islam is reported to have called Mr. Coughlin a Christian zealot with a pen. This is particularly interesting because Mr. Islam has been responsible for arranging meetings between Mr. England and groups that the U.S. Government officially excludes from contact. (Without consulting the State Department, of course.)
